100 Kitchen Tables
Kampaign Kidz
The first Kitchen Table premiered at the San Francisco Northern Police Station in the Western Addition for an audience made up of parent advocates. Diane Rose the
founder of Kampaign Kidz hosted a kitchen table and conversation about the need for safe havens – creating places for children who are in fear of being harmed.
At the table were her board members from the San Francisco Police and Fire Departments and representatives from the Mayor’s Office and the SFUSD. They shared stories, concerns, and resources. After the performance, an expanded dialogue with the audience opened doors and built alliances.
Parents for Public Schools
The second performance was at the annual meeting for Parents for Public Schools (PPS) where they hosted a Kitchen Table for Arlene Ackerman the Superintendent of the San Fran-cisco Unified School District.
An artist crafted a warm, child friendly kitchen using folk art
images wrapping the background in bright yellow boxes of breakfast cereal. On the stage, the Superintendent shared her vision for parent involvement and received feedback that was incorporated into her plan.
San Francisco IHSS
The third Kitchen Table took center stage at Where there’s a Will there’s a Way: A Conference for Seniors and People with Disabilities. Sponsored by the IHSS Public Authority, the Kitchen Table hosted a conversation about the whole arena of longterm care and especially home care. The performance offered a creative format for the discussion about the priorities and strategies for change in adult services. It made a place for the frail elderly and disabled to share their ideas for how services might be integrated
